Hitachi Construction Machinery (UK) goes digital with The Driver Handbook

With a fleet of nearly 100 vans and cars supporting a nationwide customer base, Hitachi Construction Machinery (UK) has successfully digitised its driver communications using The Driver Handbook app and TDHConnect content management system.
This move marks a major step forward in streamlining driver engagement and reducing reliance on paper-based handbooks and internal email communications.
The company’s decision to invest in The Driver Handbook in late 2020 was driven by two main goals: to modernise communication channels and to ensure drivers always have access to the latest information—whether for road safety, compliance, or support.
Since implementation, Hitachi has fully embraced the platform, transitioning away from printed handbooks and emails in favour of a centralised digital system. Using TDHConnect, managers have uploaded a comprehensive range of resources including policies, declarations, toolbox talks, insurance documents, and emergency contact details—making critical content available 24/7 through the app.
“The ability to supplement The Driver Handbook’s standard content with our own information has been a game-changer,” said Stacey Coffey, Company Fleet Coordinator. “Everything our drivers need is now in one place, and we can track what’s been seen and signed with minimal admin.”
In addition to improving internal communication, Hitachi is leveraging the platform for compliance evidence and audit readiness, including its current FORS Bronze accreditation and planned progression to FORS Silver.
Glen Davies, Managing Director at The Driver Handbook, commented: “Hitachi is a great example of how fleets can maximise value from our platform. They’ve gone beyond handbook replacement to create a smart, integrated communication system.”
