Glynn’s cuts waste and boosts efficiency with The Driver Handbook

In an industry where compliance, communication and operational efficiency are critical, waste recycling and skip hire provider Glynn’s has embraced digital transformation to tackle one of its long standing challenges, paper dependency.
Since 2019, the company has used The Driver Handbook app and TDHConnect content management system to deliver up-to-date safety and operational information while drastically reducing the need for paper and ink.
What began as a tool to support HGV driver compliance has grown into a business-wide solution. Today, The Driver Handbook is used across all functions of the company’s operations from traffic marshals and weighbridge operatives to picking staff and managers.
“Previously I’d spend so much of my time printing reams of pages for my drivers and staff to read,” explains Jason Glynn, General Manager at Glynn’s. “They’d have to sign each one and remember to hand it back for filing. It wasn’t just the paper and ink—it was the physical space needed to store it all. Now, we use TDHConnect®, and I can upload and distribute new information in seconds. I can see exactly who’s read it, when, and for how long.”
This real-time visibility has allowed Glynn’s to build a more accountable and efficient safety culture. Managers can even reset user progress if they suspect the material has been skimmed, ensuring every piece of information is properly reviewed and understood.
Going further than the standard HGV driver handbook, Glynn’s has also developed a Site Staff handbook within the platform. This includes all safe systems of work documentation, risk assessments, and other health and safety materials, available not only in English but also in Romanian and Polish—a vital inclusion for a workforce where English may not be the first language.
To drive internal adoption and maximise engagement, Glynn’s recently appointed a ‘Driver Handbook Champion’ an internal advocate responsible for promoting app usage, answering user queries, and collecting feedback. This initiative has helped foster a culture of openness and shared responsibility around safety and compliance.
“Glynn’s is a great example of what The Driver Handbook can help a company achieve,” said Karen Davies, Operations Director at The Driver Handbook. “Jason has over 80 users across three London sites, all of whom can access business-critical information right when they need it. It’s more than just a handbook – it’s a full communication ecosystem.”
The Driver Handbook app and TDHConnect system offer a comprehensive solution with vehicle-specific handbooks, toolbox talks, knowledge checks, policy documents, and road safety campaigns. All content is easy to manage, share, and audit supporting both daily operations and external accreditation requirements.
For Glynn’s, the benefits are clear: significant savings in paper, ink, admin time and storage, along with better driver and staff engagement. Most importantly, the team is confident that every employee – driver or otherwise – has the right information, in the right format, exactly when they need it.
