W.I.T.

W.I.T. Digitising driver and workshop communications

With a fleet of drawbar and articulated trucks and an on-site HGV garage, W.I.T. Transport operates in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment. Ensuring effective communication across both driver and technician teams had become increasingly challenging—especially when it came to distributing critical safety and policy documentation.

In 2022, seeking to simplify its operations and reduce paper dependency, W.I.T. turned to The Driver Handbook. Following a successful demo, the business onboarded over 30 drivers to the mobile app platform, with managers using TDHConnect®, the powerful content management system that underpins the app.

Richard Coulson, Traffic Office Manager, was quick to see the benefits. “We used to go through boxes of paper every month. Now, thanks to The Driver Handbook, we’re practically paperless—and even getting rid of filing cabinets,” he said. “Everything’s easier, faster, and much more transparent.”

TDHConnect gives W.I.T. complete control over the content shared with drivers, including company-specific policies, risk assessments, and FORS-related documentation. Importantly, it also helps simplify FORS audit preparations. “Previously we’d spend days preparing printed handbooks and H&S paperwork for audits. Now, everything is stored digitally, centrally, and with a complete audit trail of what’s been sent, read, and acknowledged,” Richard explained.

But it’s not just the drivers who benefit. Early in 2023, W.I.T. expanded the system to create a custom Garage Handbook for its workshop technicians. This includes targeted health and safety documentation relevant to their roles and reduces the need for hard copy manuals or ad hoc updates via paper memos.

“We’ve now got two detailed, role-specific digital handbooks running on the system,” Richard said. “And with the recent end of the LST trial, we’re looking to add route plans, risk assessments, and LST-specific guidance into the platform too.”

What sets The Driver Handbook apart for Richard isn’t just the technology, but the team behind it. “It’s not just a digital handbook—it’s a complete solution backed by real service. If I have a question, someone usually comes back to me within minutes. It’s so refreshing.”

The move to The Driver Handbook has significantly improved operational efficiency at W.I.T. Managers can view driver records and read-receipts remotely via TDHConnect, removing the need to travel or rely on physical documentation. Drivers now receive vital information instantly on their mobile devices—no waiting around for depot visits or office hours.

Richard summarised the experience: “The flexibility of the system means it covers so many areas of our business. We’re communicating better, staying compliant, and reducing waste. The Driver Handbook has transformed how we operate – and I only wish we’d done it sooner.”
